It's possible your metadata issue relates to that. Never use synchronize for anything related to backup. Goodsync operates in two modes: Synchronization and Backup. My recommendation is to get back to that point (specifically get your images back to that point first, then clear the backup drive). The right way to do this is to start with your backup drive empty, and your images in their normal place. Let's assume for the moment you are not limited by that.

Goodsync is a good program, though the free version is limited to 100 files, so it is not actually usable for something like photography.
